Former New York Mets Outfielder to Throw First Pitch at Inaugural Arizona Championship Game


ESPN 3 to broadcast live as Perry High School of Arizona and Basic Academy of Nevada vie for the first Championship Title

Newport Beach, CA, March 11, 2017—The Boras Foundation announced today the final competitors for the highly anticipated 2017 Boras Baseball Classic of Arizona Championship game.

The 16-team invitational that pits the most elite high school teams from the Southwest against each other to name the Boras Classic of Arizona Champion, is set to be hosted at Arcadia High School on March 11, 2017 featuring Perry High School (AZ) and Basic Academy (NV).

“We are excited to announce the first Boras Baseball Classic of Arizona Champions,” said Scott Boras, Director of the Boras Family Foundation. “There is a lot of great talent in Arizona and each team fought hard to play in the final game.”

The Championship game will be broadcast on ESPN 3 at 6 p.m. MT.

Former Major League Outfielder Alex Ochoa to throw the ceremonial first pitch of the Championship game. Ochoa played eight seasons in the Major Leagues for the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies and won a world series with the Anaheim Angels in 2002. Following his playing career, Ochoa spent 3 years as a coach for the Boston Red Sox.

“We are excited to compete in the championship and have the opportunity to compete against Perry High School,” said Basic Academy Assistant Coach Dickerson. “It’s an honor to have been invited to play in the Boras Classic and we look forward to a great game.

The 16 invited high school teams participating in the tournament were guaranteed a minimum of four games, with the fourth game for the two schools that reach the highly anticipated championship game. The Boras Baseball Classic tournament brackets may be viewed in their entirety at the new Boras Classic website, borasclassicaz.com.

Tickets will be on sale for $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m.
