Loaded Draft Class to Set Stage for 2020 Boras Classic with Six New Teams


Son of famed tennis star, Jaden Agassi to make Boras Classic debut in his final high school season for the 4th Annual Boras Baseball Classic of Arizona Championship Title

 

Newport Beach, CA, September 25, 2019—The Boras Foundation today announced the 16 teams competing in the 2020 Boras Baseball Classic of Arizona. Co-hosts Corona del Sol and Arcadia High Schools welcome six new teams to the Classic held March 11-14, 2020.

The 2020 Classic is host to:

  • Two 2019 State Champions and three 2019 State Runner-Ups
  • Two teams ranked in MaxPreps 2020 Way-to-Early Top 25
  • 13 participants in 2019 Area Code and Area Code Underclass Games, including Most Outstanding Player, Jack Moss
  • Nine participants in 2019 Team USA and/or MLB PDP roster trials, including Team USA 18U WBSC silver medalist, Hunter Haas
  • 40 players already with college commitments, 20 of which are committed to schools in a Power 5 Conference
  • 10 players ranked in the Top 250 of the 2020 draft class by Perfect Game

 Out of state teams making their Boras Classic debut are:

2018 Nevada 4A State Champion Palo Verde (NV),featuring five of the top 2020 prospects in the state, including Mountain Region Player of the Year Josiah Cromwick (Oregon), Jaden Agassi (USC), Paul Myro IV (Oregon State), Noah Carbajal (Long Beach State), Paulshawn Pasqualotto and Thomas Dilandri (Texas Christian).

Long-time Colorado baseball power Cherry Creek (CO), 2019 Colorado 5A State runner-ups that have won eight State Championships overall, are led by senior first baseman Jack Moss (Arizona State), named Most Outstanding Player of 2019 Area Code Games.

Copper Hills (UT), 2019 6A Region 3 champions, feature 1st-team All-State shortstop Braden Taylor (Texas Christian).

Returning from out of state are 2019 Utah 5A State Champions Cottonwood (UT), the Colts second title in the past three years, with senior pitcher Ross Dunn, and Nevada sports powerhouse Bishop Gorman (NV), the Gaels have won eight state championships since 2006 and return five players named 1stor 2nd-team All-Desert Region

First-time Boras Classic of Arizona participant Sunnyslope (AZ)returns almost their entire team from a 2019 5A Northwest League title. Ten-time State Champion Chaparral (AZ)features seniors Trevor Long (Arizona), Tyler Stone (New Mexico) and Enzo Apodaca, looking to add to the list of 20 Firebirds’ players selected in the MLB Draft since 2004.

Nationally ranked 2019 Arizona 6A State Champions Hamilton (AZ)and Boras Classic runner-up returns, the Huskies have won four State Titles in the past six years and are ranked #4 in MaxPreps way-too-early Top 25. Chandler (AZ)brings back five All-Premier League players.

Ranked #24 in MaxPreps Top 25, Mountain Pointe (AZ)brings back five All-Central League players. Sunrise Mountain (AZ)looks to build off 20 wins in coach Michael Deardoff’s first season in 2019, while Verrado (AZ)returns an impressive eight players receiving All-Desert West League recognition.

Also returning are Nogales (AZ), and Mountain Ridge (AZ)with a senior class loaded with D1 commits.

Defending Boras Classic of Arizona champion, 2019 Arizona 6A State Runner-up and co-host Corona Del Sol (AZ)is led by a strong senior class with Hunter Haas (Arizona State), Cade Verdusco (Grand Canyon), Bryan Webb (Grand Canyon) and David Utagawa (Northwestern).

Co-host Arcadia (AZ)returns eight starting hitters and two starting pitchers, including junior outfielder Crew Edwards and senior pitcher Ryan Bolden.

The 16 high school teams participating in the Classic are guaranteed four games with the championship game slated for March 14th, 6 p.m. at Arcadia High School. The Boras Baseball Classic tournament bracket will be made available in its entirety at the Boras Classic website, borasclassic.com in early 2020.
