Mater Dei to Defend Boras Classic de-facto State Title as #2 Corona Looks for Redemption


Ahead of the Tournament’s 13th year the Classic boasts more than 35 MLB

Newport Beach, Calif., January 20, 2025 – The Boras Family Foundation today announced the 16 teams competing in the 2025 Southern Section of the Boras Baseball Classic of California, hosted March 25-28, 2025, with co-hosts JSerra Catholic and Mater Dei High Schools.

 

“Looking to our 13th season the Foundation is excited to welcome new teams into the fold, to ensure each participating team faces the toughest talent in the state to test their skills and grow new ones. With half of the teams ranked in the Top 25 we believe this will be the best year yet. We look forward to welcoming these 16 elite teams to the Classic.”

Two new teams join the Southern Section of the Boras Classic with Ivy League Champions Paloma Valley (27-2), and Birmingham (20-12-1).

 

Returning to the Classic alongside co-hosts JSerra Catholic ranked #3 in the Trinity League, and defending Boras Classic State Champions Mater Dei, nationally ranked #2 Corona, San Bernadino-based Aquinas (24-7), Ayala (16-13-1), Carlsbad (16-14), Cathedral Catholic (23-10), Empire League Champions Cypress (19-10-1), Gahr (18-11), Sunset-Surf League Champions Huntington Beach (24-10), La Mirada (25-8), Olympic League Champions Maranatha (22-7), Trinity League ranked #2 Santa Margarita (22-10-1), and Vista Murrieta (20-9).

 

The 16 high school teams participating in the South Classic are guaranteed four games, with the championship game slated for March 28th, 6 p.m. at JSerra. A de-facto State Title game will take place in April 2025.
