UCLA to Host Boras Classic State Championship Game


Title Game to feature North Champions Bellarmine College Prep and #1 ranked Huntington Beach High School from the South in a de-facto State Championship Game Live on ESPN3

Newport Beach, CA, May 2, 2017—The Boras Foundation announced today Bellarmine College Prep of San Jose and Huntington Beach High School to face off in the 5th annual Boras Baseball Classic Title game.

“With so much talent in the Classic each year it is always exciting to see who comes out on top,” said Scott Boras, Director of the Boras Foundation. “We strive to bring the most elite athletes to the Classic to provide a great platform for them to showcase their talents. Bellarmine Prep and Huntington Beach High School fought hard for their wins and we are pleased with the talented athletes at each school who competed to earn this right.”

Bellarmine to feature the talents of centerfielder Kyle Horn (Baylor), catcher Todd Jackson (USD) along with pitcher Matt Clark (Nevada Reno).

“The team worked hard and it was exciting to see the culmination of that turn into a win. We look forward to representing the North in the de-facto State Title game”, said Mike Rodriguez, Bellarmine College Prep Head Coach. “The Classic is a first-class event and we are honored to be a part of the grueling 5-game schedule to truly test the depth of our team.”

Connor Mack Sr. (OF) and Cal commit named as the offensive MVP of the game in his final appearance in the Classic. Teammate Connor Henriques Jr. (INF) was named as defensive MVP of the game in their victory over Davis for the Northern section.

“The Boras Classic is truly one of the best, if not the best tournament in the country. With that being said, it’s a tremendous honor to be one of the teams in the championship game,” said Benji Medure, Huntington Beach High School Head Coach. “I look forward to the competition of the game and playing the champion team from the north section in Bellarmine College Prep. Excited to get after it against the best.”

Huntington Beach’s Hagen Danner (RHP/C) UCLA commit and first round draft hopeful was named as Player to the Tournament after their 9-4 victory over reigning Champions Mira Costa High School.

Final game to be the 2-2 tie breaker for titles won in the north and south in the last four-years of the Boras Baseball Classic.

Tickets on sale day of game for $7. Gates open at 10:00 a.m. at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
