MLB Draft Boasts Back-to-Back #1 Overall Picks from Boras Baseball Classic
Royce Lewis Selected as #1 Overall MLB Draft Pick by Minnesota Twins from JSerra Catholic
Newport Beach, CA, June 19, 2017—The Boras Foundation is please to have 19 Boras Baseball Classic participants selected in the 2017 MLB draft.
Leading the 2017 class of draftees is long-time prospect and UCI commit, Royce Lewis (SS) of JSerra Catholic High School.
“When I heard them [MLB Commissioner, Robert Manfred] call my name I froze,” said Lewis of his number one overall draft pick by the Minnesota Twins. “It was an amazing feeling.”
The Boras Baseball Classic is fortunate enough to now have back-to-back number one MLB draftees with Mickey Moniak (Phillies, CF) in 2016 and now Lewis (Twins).
The Classic strives year after year to bring the top talent from California and Arizona to compete at the highest level,” said Scott Boras, Director of the Boras Foundation. “Having both Moniak and Lewis competing in the Classic and selected as the number one overall picks speaks to the caliber of talent and competition featured each year.”
Also selected in the first round, are Boras Baseball Classic participants, Hunter Greene (RHP) of Notre Dame Sherman Oaks selected second by the Cincinnati Reds and Nick Pratto (LHP) of Huntington Beach selected 14th by the Kansas City Royals.
