No.1 Overall MLB Draft Pick Paul Skenes Marks Fourth #1 selection out of the Boras Classic


Ahead of the Tournament’s 12th year the Classic boasts more than 43 MLB Draftees in the 2023 class with 87 Division l players joining the single elimination bracket this Spring

 

Newport Beach, Calif., January 4, 2024 – The Boras Family Foundation today announced the 16 teams competing in the 2024 Southern Section of the Boras Baseball Classic of California, hosted April 2-5, 2024, with co-hosts JSerra Catholic and Mater Dei High Schools.

“As we’re well underway in our second decade we are proud to share we’ve had 43 draftees in the 2023 Draft Class and welcome 68 Dl committed players to the Classic this coming Spring. This is a testament to our mission of providing a platform for these young athletes showcasing their skills as they pursue their next level in their careers. It’s no secret I’m a big proponent of education and using sport as a means of gaining access to higher education is even better. The collegiate coaches from around the country remain dedicated to the players in the tournament demonstrating another marker in our commitment to providing access and opportunity.”

The 2024 Southern Section Classic is host to:

  • Three 2023 Perfect Game Nationally ranked teams: #8 JSerra Catholic, #27 La Costa Canyon, and #33 Huntington Beach
  • Three 2024 MaxPreps Early Top 25 teams: #5 Corona, #10 JSerra Catholic, and #16 Huntington Beach
  • Four CIF Champions: Crespi (Dll), JSerra Catholic (Dl), La Costa Canyon (San Diego Open Division), and Ganesha (D7)
  • 16 – 2023 Area Code Games players
  • 15 Perfect Game Top 100 Nationally ranked players for the 2024- 2026 classes

Three new teams join the Southern section of the Boras Classic with Mission League Champions Crespi (28-8), undefeated league Champions Ganesha (10-0), and Carlsbad High School (21-12).

Returning to the Classic alongside co-hosts JSerra Catholic ranked #10 by MaxPreps, and Mater Dei, who returns five All-Trinity League players are Baseball America ranked #22 La Costa Canyon, Aquinas with eight Division l players returning, Huntington Beach with 11 Division players, #5 MaxPreps ranked Corona, and undefeated Valle Vista League’s San Dimas (10-0).

Adrian Beltre Jr. makes his return with 15-time league champions Maranatha along with four fellow Division l committed teammates, La Mirada brings two First Team and three 2nd Team All-League selections, with 2022 CIF-SS Division ll Champions Etiwanda bringing All-CIF selection Brady Ebel, and Rancho Bernardo (22-10) returning six All-League players.    

Designated hitter Noah Malone returns with the Hacienda League’s South Hills High School (25-9). Also making their return after the inaugural year of the Tournament are 2022 CIF-SS Division lll Champions Oaks Christian.  

The 16 high school teams participating in the South Classic are guaranteed four games, with the championship game slated for April 5th, 6 p.m. at Mater Dei. A de-facto State Title game will take place in April 2024.
