Six Nationally ranked teams return to vie for the ultimate title as Villa Park returns

to defend their 2022 Title

Newport Beach, Calif., January 11, 2023 – The Boras Family Foundation today announced the 16 teams competing in the 2023 Southern Section of the Boras Baseball Classic of California, hosted April 11-14, 2023, at both JSerra Catholic and Mater Dei High Schools.

The 2023 Classic is host to:

  • Three 2022 League Champions; Cypress, La Mirada and newcomers Aquinas
  • Seven members of the MaxPreps 2022 All-State Team
  • 29 – 2022 Area Code Games players
  • 56 returning All-League Players
  • 58 Perfect Game Top 500 Nationally ranked players for the 2023- 2025 classes
  • 83 Division l commitments

Three new teams join the Southern section of the Boras Classic both coming from the Inland Empire including 24-6 Norco and 28-3 Aquinas. The Trinity League’s Santa Margarita also joins for the first time.

Returning to the Classic alongside defending 28-6 champions Villa Park (ranked #7 by MaxPreps) include hosts JSerra Catholic (ranked #2 by MaxPreps) and Mater Dei returning pitchers Brennan Sieber (Vanderbilt) and Landon Gordon (USC). Bringing three Area Code Underclassman in their return are Corona, Cypress with six starters returning, #12 ranked Etiwanda, Orange County powerhouse Huntington Beach (#6 ranked by MaxPreps) bringing 11 Division l committed players, reigning Suburban League Champions La Mirada, and 24-8 Maranatha.

Notre Dame Sherman Oaks ranked #50 in the Nation by Baseball America brings the likes of the Top 100 player in the 2023 class, Dean West (UCLA). Orange Lutheran returns (#12 ranked by Perfect Game), 20-7 San Dimasreturns with five Division l commitments, along with Santa Margarita returning 10 Division l commitments, with Corona Santiago rounding out the 2023 field.

The 16 high school teams participating in the South Classic are guaranteed four games, with the championship game slated for April 14th, 6 p.m. A de-facto State Title game will take place April 29, 2023, in Northern California and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
